Sinovel’s design and development team is highly competent in a wide range of disciplines, such as aerodynamics, numerical analysis, machinery, hydraulic pressure, electrical systems, automation, and software development. The Company’s R&D Center is responsible for developing Sinovel’s 1.5MW, 3MW, 5MW and 6MW series of grid-compatible wind turbines, which can be adapted to a variety of wind and environmental conditions. The Company has leveraged data from its operation of more than 800 units of large-scale onshore and offshore turbines to advance its research. Moreover, Sinovel has cooperated with scientific academies and research institutes both domestically and abroad. These achievements have kept Sinovel as a global leader in wind turbine technology research and development.

The Center was commissioned by Sinovel upon receiving approval from the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration. It is the only national R&D center focused on the study of offshore wind power technology and equipment in China. The Center was built with the aim to attract leading global talent in the design and development of wind power technology who could best maximize the facility’s state-of-the-art equipment and laboratory capabilities. The Center has been responsible for the development of the leading 3MW, 5MW and 6MW onshore, offshore and intertidal series of wind turbines, and is currently working on the development of wind turbines with a generating capacity of 10MW or higher. In addition, Sinovel is constructing a testing platform for wind turbines and key components with a capacity of up to 15MW to maintain the company’s leadership in the development of offshore wind power technologies.
